(October 27, 2006 - Moultrie, Georgia) The City of Moultrie, Community Network Services TV, and Amy Johnson, Main Street manger, were honored at the annual Georgia Downtown conference with the 2006 Outstanding Outreach Award for Johnson’s TV show, “Moultrie on the Move.”

“Moultrie on the Move” was developed as a medium to disseminate information about news and events within the community as well as a platform for educating and informing citizens about the community in which they live. The show reaches 5,000 homes.

“In an effort to create greater public awareness to the show concept, we have created sponsorship opportunities with the show for other public entities,” said Lance Arnett, City of Moultrie CNS director. “For example, Colquitt Regional Medical Center (CRMC) has a segment on the show called ‘Good Health.’ Medical and health care professionals use the show as an opportunity to inform and educate the public on various health and wellness issues.”

Moultrie Technical College has a segment in the show called “Tech Talk.”

“The involvement of entities such as CRMC and MTC allow us to create public awareness of and involvement in the show and ultimately lead to the success of the show,” Arnett said.

The show also features a segment titled “Business Showcase.” This segment allows local business owners to come onto the show and talk about the products and services offered by their firms.

“The response of the community to ‘Moultrie on the Move’ has exceeded everyone’s greatest expectations,” said Moultrie City Manager Bob Hopkins. “We have been producing a new show about every three weeks for one year, and response of the community has been overwhelming.”

Billy Parrish, director of the Office of Downtown Development in the Department of Community Affairs, praised the city during the awards ceremony.

“The mayor and council’s support of downtown was clearly apparent when they worked to build a public access show to highlight their city,” Parrish said. “They know a healthy and vibrant downtown business district is critical to success and growth, where community, culture, and heritage have been integrated with innovation and state-of-the-art technology.”

“ ‘Moultrie on the Move’ is a local news and talk show produced by the City of Moultrie through its CNS Television department,” Parrish said. “They knew who their host would be right away — Moultrie Main Street Director Amy Johnson. The city recognizes that downtown is the heart of this community and the Main Street Program stays in the spotlight with Amy in the hot seat.”

Johnson expressed her pleasure about the show.

“I enjoy talking to the variety of people we have on the show from throughout our community,” she said. “We are very honored to have been awarded this award.”

“Moultrie on the Move” airs on CNS Channel 6 daily. The show is produced by Ron Hunter of Hunter Video Productions.
